Huntington supports Kickball for a Home

Twelve colleagues recently finished in second place in the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption (DTFA) Kickball for a Home event at Beekman Park in Columbus. This year’s event raised $41,000 and featured 24 teams, including Team Huntington.

Team Huntington comprised of Amanda Adams, Huntington Investment Company (HIC); Stephanie Adkins, home lending; Brandis Carr, treasury management; Zach Lawrence, home lending; Jeff Lingo, home lending; Andy Livingston, Private Client Group (PCG); Chad Lybarger, PCG; Jay McDaniel, home lending; Jim Thomas, HIC; Ed Waldrop, PCG; Brandon Webb, home lending and Scott Wintering, commercial.

“Participating in the DTFA Kickball for a Home event is just one more example of Huntington doing the right thing in our communities,” said Chad Lybarger, who coordinated Huntington’s team for the event. “We raised $1,200 this year, and hope to raise a great deal more for next year’s event. The accomplishments that DTFA is able to achieve are tremendous. They have served more than 10,000 children who many consider to be unadoptable,” Chad said.

The Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption is a national nonprofit public charity dedicated to dramatically increasing adoptions of the more than 134,000 children waiting in North America’s foster care systems. Created by Wendy’s founder Dave Thomas, who was adopted, the Foundation implements results-driven national signature programs, foster care adoption awareness initiatives and research-based advocacy efforts.

  • There are more than 400,000 children in the U.S. foster care system; 104,000 of these children are available for adoption.
  • More children become available for adoption each year than are adopted.
  • A child in foster care can wait up to five years to be adopted.
  • Each year, approximately 30,000 children in foster care turn 18 and age out of the public child welfare system without a permanent family.
  • Nearly 40% of American adults, or 81.5 million people, have considered adopting a child. If just one in 500 of these adults adopted, every waiting child in foster care would have a permanent family.
